Attending an AAFSHP Dinner Conference at L’Adresse in NOMAD
I recently had the pleasure of attending an American Association of French-speaking Health Professionals (AAFSHP) Dinner Conference at L’Adresse, a lovely restaurant at 1184 Broadway, between 28th and 29th Street. Established in 1979, AAFSHP is a valuable social forum for French-speaking health professionals. The organization promotes exchanging ideas, sponsors scientific seminars and even publishes a directory of French-speaking specialists.
A French Language Challenge
Do I speak French? I studied the language for eight years, but I would describe my skills as “survival French” at best. Nevertheless, I was determined to challenge myself and improve my language skills. During the evening, I listened to a fascinating presentation by Dr. Alessandra Hirsch, MS, MD. Dr. Hirsch, an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, delivered her talk in French. Her presentation covered the history of abortion, essential medical care for pregnant women of all races, and the current challenges women face due to America’s political climate on the topic.
My Experience at the Conference
How did I do with the language? Not too bad! I understood about half of her presentation, and I must admit that her slides’ visuals helped immensely. No, I probably wouldn’t pass a French test, but I felt proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and showing up.
A Memorable Evening at L’Adresse
Beyond the conference, I was impressed by L’Adresse. This restaurant’s cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere makes it a perfect venue for such an event. From the delicious food to the friendly staff, L’Adresse added to the experience, making the evening educational and enjoyable.

A Glimpse Inside L’Adresse Nomad
Below is an image of their stylish bar and dining area, which perfectly complements their eclectic menu. The ambiance is as inviting as the food, making L’Adresse Nomad a must-visit spot whether you’re looking for a casual meal or a sophisticated dining experience.

And L’Adresse did not disappoint! First, there was a glass of sparkling Prosecco!

For my main dish, I chose the Tandoori Chicken, served with Moroccan couscous, chimichurri sauce, tomato, and cilantro.

A Memorable Culinary Experience at L’Adresse
The meal at L’Adresse was fabulous. I started with a perfectly marinated chicken dish, which was tender and flavorful, accompanied by a delicious serving of couscous. The combination was delightful, with each bite bursting with well-balanced flavors that satisfied me thoroughly.
Indulging in a Divine Dessert
For dessert, I opted for the Smetannyk V, a layered sour cream cake that was nothing short of divine. The cake was executed beautifully, with each layer impeccably crafted to create a harmonious blend of textures and flavors. It was rich yet light, and I savored every bite. I can confidently say I’ll be back for another slice in the not-so-distant future!

I heartily recommend L’Adresse. The food was terrific, and I’ll be back!
