NEW YORK – The Mark and The Met: A Perfect Pairing
It was a gorgeous Sunday, late morning, when I arrived at 77th and Madison to join a group of friends for Brunch at The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges located in The Mark Hotel. After Brunch we were off to see the latest exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum called Sleep Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. But more about that later. First let’s eat!!
We were lucky enough to sit in this sky-lit area, for which I was grateful.
So, what should I order on such a lovely day?
Since this was about noon on a warm summery day, I chose the Avocado Toast with two Poached Eggs. That, with a cup of coffee, was a delightful selection. The avocado was remarkably fresh and delicious.
Then, it was off to The Met to see the exhibit Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
The exhibition Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion shares 220 garments and accessories spanning eons with its visitors. All are visually connected through themes of nature, which also serve as a metaphor for the transience of fashion.
Visitors can sense the aromatic histories of hats with floral motifs and experience butterflies in fashion crafted from feathers. The collection also includes a series of “sleeping beautifies” garments that can no longer be dressed on mannequins due to their fragility!
