Gemma Trattoria on Bowery
My meal was fabulous. The bread was deliciously, heavily crusted grain, and the avocado puree was divine. The roasted sunflower seeds and lightly shredded radishes were an unbelievably delightful combination.

Townhouse Diner in Murray Hill
As a denizen of midtown East, it’s been my pleasure to enjoy meals served locally at the Townhouse Diner in the Murray Hill neighborhood. With a friendly proprietor George and servers like Sarah, it’s a perfect place to visit for anyone who grew up in the northeast. Something is comforting, like grandma’s kitchen, about sitting in a booth in a warm, friendly place. All that’s missing these days are the mini jukeboxes once mounted on all diner tables.

Chez Josephine
Chez Josephine was the brainchild of Jean-Claude Baker from Burgundy, who named his restaurant after his adoptive mother, Josephine Baker. Baker (born Freda Josephine McDonald was an American-born naturalized French citizen famed as a dancer, singer, and actress.

Bryant Park Grill
I highly recommend the Bryant Park Grill with its excellent food. Be sure to make a reservation because even on a Wednesday night it was crowded!

Cotenna Italian Restaurant in The West Village
Cotenna is known for some of the finest Italian dishes in town and renowned for its burrata and pasta. They boast a long list of wines as well as a variety of cocktails. While some wines are costly, their food choices are delightfully affordable. The decor is simple while matching the restaurant’s innate elegance on a small scale.

Dinner with Gangsters and Ghosts
It was a great meal and tour! We learned about the Chinese Gangs and Mafia Dons and what became of them. We walked to Washington Square Park and learned about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, the hanging tree in the Park, and a tragic partying event in the Arch that sits in the park at the base of Fifth Avenue.
