Today, I enjoyed an inviting, fresh, contemporary Greek restaurant in New York’s Turtle Bay neighborhood. After just one visit, Ethos is now one of my favorites.

Comfortable Taverna

The origin of the word Ethos is Greek. It means distinguishing the character and guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution. At Ethos, the restaurant’s rich character of Greek tradition is evident in the cuisine and the beautifully decorated and comfortable taverna. What makes it unique is the preparation’s inventiveness and creativity and the ingredients’ freshness. The food at Ethos is, according to its menu, “prepared traditionally, reinvented contemporary.”

Deliciously Soft, Warm Pita Triangles

I stopped in for lunch with a friend. We did not want a big lunch, so we did not take advantage of the Prix Fixe luncheon menu. Instead, we chose soup, salad, and an appetizer. Immediately, a plate of deliciously soft, warm pita triangles with creamy hummus and Greek olives arrived.

Perfect Ratio of Lemon

Next were bowls of Avgolemono Soup. This classic organic egg-lemon soup with chicken and orzo was creamy, filled with tender shredded chicken and soft orzo, and had the perfect ratio of lemon. The soup was garnished with chopped green onion and additional chopped fresh dill.

Tasty and Satisfying

Next, the Marouli Salad was tasty and satisfying, with romaine hearts, fresh scallions, dill, and feta in a house dressing. The chopped salad was perfectly dressed with delightful feta. A side of Keftedes, traditional Greek-style meatballs with tomato sauce, provided additional protein and more dipping opportunities for the pita! The meatballs were tender and flavorful, with an incredibly pleasing sauce.

Sumptuous Contemporary Greek Cuisine

Responsive and friendly service, a quiet, comfortable atmosphere, and sumptuous contemporary Greek cuisine will bring us back to Ethos when we have bigger appetites. It was exciting, inviting, and convenient to experience a delicious slice of Greece right in our own neighborhood.
