La Grande Boucherie

French dining at La Grande Boucherie, a heavenly slice of Paris on West 53rd Street, is a place to display my celebratory Eiffel Tower earrings. This is a restaurant de l’amour. It is a beautiful, relaxing, and delightful respite from the city’s hustle and bustle.

A friend suggested we meet there. No, not the “real” Paris, but right here in New York. I set out to review La Grande Boucherie at 145 West 53rd Street. I discovered a remarkable, sumptuous dining venue.

The restaurant offers inside and outside dining along Sixth Avenue and a quasi-brasserie setting in the Art Nouveau style. Outdoor dining is year-round. Inside are a dining room, bar, and mezzanine areas.

I reviewed the dessert menu first, and with that in mind, I ordered the Salade Niçoise. Hot, fresh French bread arrived. Ooh-la-la!

La Grand Boucherie Salade Niçoise: Ahi Tuna, haricots vert, tomato, oak leaf, olives, organic egg, anchovy, red wine, and vinaigrette. It was fresh and delightful.

There are many fine choices for dessert.

I ordered the mysterious Babar Exotique Au Rhum Leger.

Inside the pastry were small pieces of pineapple. The whipped creme and rum topping I generously poured added to its charm, flavor, and presentation.

Délicieux bien sur!

Fresh, hot coffee was the apposite accompaniment.

I highly recommend La Grande Boucherie. It’s dining in an opulent dreamscape of a faraway land.

Bon appetit from Sora Vernikoff!

Electric Lemon at Hudson Yards

The Electric Lemon restaurant is located at the top of the five-star Equinox Hotel in Hudson Yards. The rooftop bar boasts an 8,000-square-foot rooftop garden with a monumental Jaume Plensa sculpture. It overlooks the Hudson River and the city skyline. They possess a wide range of food and drinks, from light bites to seasonal offerings at dinner and rooftop brunch on the weekends. It’s open all year round because of the sleek and expansive dining room and fire-pits on the al fresco terrace.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

I suppose that the title of my blog post, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, is a little misleading because it turned out to be Dinner at Tiffany’s, or more accurately, Dinner at the Blue Box Café. This Cafe honors the romance of the 1961 film starring Audrey Hepburn. Tiffany’s of course was the romantic setting where the lovely Audrey Hepburn went each morning with a pastry and cup of coffee to have breakfast as she window shopped. You might add Breakfast at Tiffany’s to your movie viewing list if you’ve missed it. The song Moon River will have new meaning for you!
