It was a rainy Monday night, and while I considered staying home, I had made plans to meet a girlfriend at Nice Matin on the Upper West Side for dinner. I took the 1 Train uptown and got off at West 79th Street, and happily, the restaurant was just a block from the stop.
When I discovered Nice Matin, it had been almost two decades since its arrival. Turns out that it is one of the Upper West Side’s most elegant, beautifully designed, and sophisticated dining destinations.
Nice Matin features a Grand Award-winning wine List and an extraordinary, inventive, French Provencal-inspired menu created by Chef Andy D’Amico. He was named “Best Chef” by New York Magazine food editor Gillian Duffy.
Nice Matin is the essential French Brasserie and Wine Destination of the Upper West Side.
More about their food in a moment–but first, let’s check out the outside dining area, bar seating, and the inside dining area.

So what’s a gal going to order in this Brasserie?

I chose the Atlantic Salmon with a bed of French Lentils, shaved Brussels sprouts, lemon vinaigrette, and grain mustard beurre blanc sauce (I asked for sauces on the side).

First came the amazing French roll with the choice of butter or oil.
The salmon dish was one of the finest I’ve ever eaten. The combination of the salmon on the lentils with shaved raw Brussels sprouts cooked in lemon vinaigrette was off-the-charts amazing. Fabulous!
I finished dinner with a cup of black coffee. My meal was one of the best I’ve had in months!
So, if you’re on the Upper West Side, don’t hesitate.
