I recently covered The Red Carpet Hospitality Gala at The InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel at 111 East 48th Street.

The event had many luminaires and executives from the hotel and tourism industry. In addition, there were guests from Broadway and non-profit industries as well.

This annual dinner was hosted by the Hotel Association of New York City Foundation or the HANYC Foundation. The HANYC Foundation provides scholarships for students interested in pursuing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree.

The Foundation also provides human trafficking training for HANYC members and their staff and hotel accommodations for individuals and families to stay while experiencing unanticipated hardship and crisis.

During this annual fundraiser, the HANYC Foundation honored Susan Santiago, President of the United States and Canada Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, with its Hospitality Award. Richard R. Buery, Jr., Chief Executive Officer of Robin Hood, received the Humanitarian Award.

Additional remarks were made by Jonathan M. Tisch, Executive Chairman, Loews Hotels & Co.

The evening offered a cocktail reception, dinner, musical performance, and an award presentation.

Here are some photos from the event and some of the folks I spoke to who support the work of this great foundation.

I then had the privilege of speaking to Heather Davis, President of the Board of HANYC and Vice President of Operations for the Aimbridge hospitality company. She shared that her work in the hospitality industry gave her the opportunity to volunteer for the Foundation, for which she cares deeply. Photo by Sora Vernikoff

The gracious Paul Yelle explained to me that his company is the first on-site resource for a hotel or business with an emergency. His company has the resources and team to get things up and running smoothly once again.
