Angry Alan at Studio Seaview

“Angry Alan” begins with a brilliant and sensitive script by Penelope Skinner that is both seductive and raw.  Then we have John Krasinski – you know that sweet guy with the bowl cut from “The Office” 2005-2013.  (Yes, THAT long ago, so just take a moment and swallow.)  THAT guy gives a performance that is startling in its precision and depth.  Who knew?  Top it off with direction by Sam Gold, who has pulled every ounce of nuance out of this even and released it to the four winds.  This is a theatrical trifecta: brilliant writing, exquisite acting, and insightful direction.

Call Me Izzy at Studio 54

Jean Smart’s performance is so smooth – even through rough bits – that she appears not to be acting at all.  She simply transforms over and over again as she slips into each chapter of Izzy’s story, making what is a complicated feat of magic look easy.

Laurie Roldan: A Song For You – The Music of Karen Carpenter at The Green Room 42

In an era when the world feels increasingly fractured and complex, Laurie Roldan arrived at The Green Room 42 like a beacon of comfort and hope. Her tribute to Karen Carpenter, “A Song For You,” offered more than mere musical interpretation—it delivered a genuinely personal meditation on resilience, faith, and the healing power of song. Resplendent in a white sequined ensemble that caught every stage light, Roldan commanded attention from her opening moments with Leon Russell’s “A Song For You”—a perfect choice that immediately established the evening’s intimate, confessional tone. But her warmth, not her sparkle, truly captivated the audience.

A Deliciously Devilish Romp: “Point Loma” Serves Up Retro Horror

Manhattan Repertory Theatre has struck theatrical gold with Tim Mulligan’s wickedly entertaining “Point Loma,” a gleefully campy horror spoof that channels the best of 1950s B-movie schlock while delivering genuine scares and belly laughs in equal measure. Under Ken Wolf’s spirited direction, this off-Broadway gem transforms the intimate black box space of the Chain Theatre into a haunted playground where paranormal podcasters meet their match in a sinister San Diego hospice house.
