NEW YORK – Law and Order Special Victims Unit
In New York City, many neighborhoods have been and continue to be used to film movies and TV shows. Locals get excited when they see “no parking” signs in their neighborhood, which keep the area clear for a film shooting.
Imagine my surprise and excitement upon discovering the “Law and Order Special Victims Unit” celebrating its 25th anniversary in a pop-up event at New York’s Rockefeller Center. Since the show films scenes around New York City, a celebration in midtown was perfect! The event runs through March 15.
Television has also had a long love affair with New York City. “Law and Order Special Victims Unit” has continued the tradition of filming scenes here as established by shows like “Friends” (1994-2004), “Seinfeld” (1989-1998), and “Sex and the City” (1998-2004).
While NBC wasn’t filming on March 14, crowds of fans and I entered the virtual world of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” through a virtual subway station staged on Rockefeller Center’s Olivia Benson Plaza. The show’s stars, such as Ice T, Octavio Pisano, Kevin Kane, and luminaries Al Roker and New York Nico (aka Nicolas “Nico” Heller), appeared.
As a major show fan, my imagination set fire as I strolled into the event. Walking onto a bustling scene from one of my favorite TV shows in New York City was an exhilarating experience that felt almost surreal. I basked in the city’s vibrant energy, stepping into a world I’ve admired through my screen.
Visitors received complimentary delicious teas and hot coffees, adding a comforting touch to the experience. It was more than just a beverage; it was a gesture that made me feel welcome, valued, and part of the show’s extended family for a day.
La Colombe provided a Benson & Co. coffee truck serving drinks crafted to honor the show’s iconic characters. Choices included Benson’s Captain-ccino, Carisi’s Classic Americano, Cup of Joe Velasco, and Fin’s Ice Tea—each decorated with a custom Law & Order logo printed courtesy of Ripple.

The next photo below showcases technology where a person can stand in front of the camera and be part of the introduction to a new SVU Segment. It was delightful fun!

Sipping coffee while soaking in the surroundings, I felt gratitude and wonder as I bridged the gap between imagination and reality. I sensed firsthand the creativity, hard work, and passion needed to produce the stories that captivate weekly. For a moment, I was not just a spectator but a participant in the world of television.
I can hardly wait for the next show!
