Colorado’s Gourmet Gold Cookbook

Making homemade Caesar salad is better than purchasing store-bought that has ingredients such as xanthan gum, cheese culture, and natural flavor. Whatever those ingredients are, I don’t want to eat them or serve them to guests.

What Doesn’t Kill Her

Fueled by the Me Too Movement, American voters elected an unprecedented number of women to Congress, giving rise to more women’s voices being heard. As a result, we live in a motivational period in our history. The result of McKetta and Garvin’s dream, What Doesn’t Kill Her, Women’s Stories of Resilience, is an array of stories by some of today’s empowered women who are survivors.

Judy Collins: Winter Stories

The eyes that inspired Stephen Stills to write “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” are still deep blue and lit with the spark of a veteran performing artist. That voice was just as crisp and smoothly transitioned through several octaves, the same as when she first performed her guitar-based songs back in the 60s. A volume of curly hair framed a soulful face.

Four Days on the Bourbon Trail

We bought a few bottles of the Woodford Reserve Distillery Series, one of the nine bourbons on our search. The bartender served the drink in a traditional “copper” Mint Julep cup. Finally, it was time to head to our accommodations in Paris.

Hell or High Seas

The waters off the coast of southern South America are treacherous. Simple mistakes can take you hundreds of miles off the coast, something the crew experienced firsthand. Bitter winds blew from Antarctica. Hazardous waves crashed across the bow and almost broke the mast. Moviegoers sat on the edge of their seats as they watched Mother Nature throw her limitless fury on the sailboat, “Ole Lady,” trying to dash the dreams of Grieger and the others.

The story isn’t just about caring too much. It’s about caring what other people think, and finding the solution to happiness is about loving yourself and fulfilling your expectations.

Victor’s Cafe

At Victor’s Cafe there are several traditional and satisfying rice dishes, seafood, and meat choices, but it’s best to leave room for dessert. There are seven choices, but I consider the Flan de Huevo ($9) the best. A caramel sauce that tempts you to drink it from the plate surrounded by the Cuban-style egg custard.

When Holden William Hagelberger as Trevor opens his mouth in Trevor the Musical and belts out the first song “Do You Know/On With the Show,” the audience realizes they will enjoy this production, no matter what the storyline is. The fantastic voice and natural acting talents of young Hagelberger are on display throughout this two-act play, set in fictional Lakeview Junior High School in 1981.

Nerds Gone Wild by Victor Bjorge

The book is hilarious. It “explores the absurdly fast rise and dominance of The Nerd at this moment in time when the fate of humankind hands in the balance.” Our society has progressed to where we can no longer function without the technological advancements the nerd society has introduced us to and has forced us to rely on in the 21st century.
