A Doll’s House Part 2

Lucas Hnath’s A Doll’s House – Part 2, is an exploration of the complexity of human emotions, discrete frailty, dreams, ambitions, freedom, and needs emanating from the configuration of the nuclear family, in this instance, with three children and no dog. The four-member cast carried the 90-minute production beautifully, masterfully maintaining their respective roles, engaging the heart and imagination, and taking us with them as they traveled effortlessly in an inventive dreamscape through time.

Witness

“I come from, well it doesn’t matter, the town doesn’t even exist anymore in Russia,” says Igor Golyak, the director of Witness, “and if we can’t feel safe in America, where are we to go – what is next? Assimilation?” What Golyak does not say is haunting; the silence during a talkback after the show — what is not said lingers in consciousness when the interview concludes.

Approval Junkie

This talented, and one could say overachiever, has pulled together poignant and cheerful snippets of her life’s experiences based on her book, “Approval Junkie: Adventures in Caring Too Much,” to make her Off-Broadway debut in a one-woman show. The story isn’t just about caring too much. It’s about caring what other people think, and finding the solution to happiness is about loving yourself and fulfilling your expectations.

Trevor The Musical

When Holden William Hagelberger as Trevor opens his mouth in Trevor the Musical and belts out the first song “Do You Know/On With the Show,” the audience realizes they will enjoy this production, no matter what the storyline is. The fantastic voice and natural acting talents of young Hagelberger are on display throughout this two-act play, set in fictional Lakeview Junior High School in 1981.

The Woman in Black

The mood is set from the moment you enter the theater and the play begins. An amazing full moon casting shadows over the gravesite scene is as stirring as the seashells illuminated haphazardly at the edge of the stage flickering throughout the acts.

The Fever

Lili Taylor, the unnamed actor in the play “The Fever,” runs down the aisle and jumps on the stage to begin her 90-minute monologue (rant) and exhibits the only excitement the audience experiences; the play could use some fieriness.

Fully Committed

According to the New Testament, Eschaton, a topic explored in Fully Committed, is the day at the end of time following Armageddon when God will decree the fates of all individuals. The term is often used colloquially to refer to the end of the day. Now, it is the name of the latest virtual nightclub concept featuring some of the top talents in NYC at the end of time on Saturdays while the city is shuttered.

Love by MasterVoices

This fabulous third chapter of “A Theatrical Song Cycle in a Four-Part Digital Series” entitled LOVE, explores human relationships through a mystical lens at love’s ironies, impediments, and expectations. Through this musical passageway, we observe fulfillment, loss, and violence, while ultimately drawing relief through the brilliantly understated postscript of how one might lose another.
