Island Restaurant on Madison
I recently arranged to meet as a friend at Island Restaurant, 1035 Madison Avenue at 91st Street. Rarely do I go to Manhattan’s Yorkville neighborhood, so I looked forward to a new neighborhood and restaurant.
After some research, I discovered that Island Restaurant was founded in 1986 by the McLaughlin family. The restaurant serves classic dishes inspired by the shores of New England. Now, I must admit that I did love the restaurant’s interior. I felt like I was out of the city and on a vacation or maybe even at a Yacht Club! Yes, a Yacht Club that you might find on the coasts of New England or maybe even on the coasts of Bermuda! This type of decorative nautical sensibility is displayed by a sea glass bar, French bistro chairs, and a hand-painted mosaic wall behind the bar as an art collection of waterside and nautical scenes, again that you might see on the shores of New England and/or even Bermuda.
First-class welcoming service
Founded in 1986 by the McLaughlin family, Island is the Carnegie Hill neighborhood’s favorite restaurant for lunch with friends, drinks, and dinner at the bar or a family dinner. Its excellent staff delivers first-class, welcoming service, and its seasonal menu offers a variety of delicious food. Authenticity is paramount; we take pride in sourcing the finest local ingredients.
The Island Restaurant’s interior feels like a vacation from New York City – taking you to a yacht club atmosphere inspired by the coasts of Bermuda and New England. This nautical sensibility comes together with a sea glass bar, French bistro chairs, a hand-painted mosaic wall behind the bar, and McLaughlin’s art collection with waterside and nautical scenes from the shores of New England to Bermuda.
I opted for a baked potato.
So, what did I decide to order?
With the holidays coming up and so many tastings and events, I decided to keep it simple and ordered the Roasted Murray’s Free-Range Chicken; however, I didn’t have the Parmesan Crusted Cauliflower that came with it but opted for a baked potato!

So, what did I decide to order? Here are some options.

The chicken was fresh and tasty, and the sour cream they added to the baked potato was great!
Then, I had a cup of fresh, hot Black Coffee to help get me to 86th Street on the ride home.
I heartily recommend Island Restaurant. Its ambiance is chill, the staff delightful, and the food delicious!
