I took the chance to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Nellie’s Cafe in the Catskills. Between the approach of the Ides of March and St. Patrick’s Day, it seemed the perfect time to leave town. I signed up for a one-day bus trip to Nellie’s for an Irish Café country experience and an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

Nellie’s is located at 2212 Route 145 in East Durham, New York.
We left light rain behind and traded it for upstate snow! It was cold outside, but fresh snow on the ground was beautiful to see.
Here is the porch of the Irish Country Café and Pub, and a marvelous place to sit and relax during the mild weather.
Inside, you see the bar and dining area.

Lively drink options!

The menu featured my choice of a three-course Irish Meal. Our repast began with hot coffee and a delicious scone. Hot, fresh Irish soda bread and butter arrived as I chose my main course.

The leek soup was warm and delicious. The salmon was excellent and presented in a home-like setting. It was mild-tasting with simple spices.

Dessert was Apple Pie a la Mode, simple and delectable!
Since the weather is still a bit brisk, visiting the gift shop had just what we all needed – beautifully made Irish sweaters.

Delightful Irish folk songs were performed by guitarist and singer Sean Feeney.

If you want to leave the city for a pleasant day trip, head up to Nellie’s in East Dunham, New York. It was relaxing, and by the end of the day, I was rejuvenated and ready to return home. I love the country and city and plan to return to East Dunham for another look around soon.
