Nightmare Dollhouse

Nightmare Dollhouse was a spooky, creepy doll-themed event that sent shivers down spines, horrible horripilations indeed! The event was staged in an old building in New York’s Lower East Side. One inched through the dimly lit rooms while walking or crawling through creepy spaces. Strange artifacts, surprises, and spine-tingling antics by weird characters made the heart race. I’ll not give it all away, but my favorite may have been sticking needles in a voodoo doll as the victim squirmed, or wait, perhaps I enjoyed drinking from a child’s make-believe haunted tea set as I was offered a ‘biscuit’ shaped like a giant cockroach.

Mark Arthur Miller: Soul Searching

Mark Arthur Miller hits the stage at The Green Room 42 with sensational exuberance and sizzling delight. He is in his element as a dancer, singer, and showman. His show, appropriately named, “Soul Searching” dips deep into your heart and soul with some of the best music ever created. Music and lyrics that are moving, beautiful, perceptive, and aesthetic, that you’ll want each song to be pushed past its end and continue on and on. You’ll want the evening to never end. Your soul has been lifted. Lifted to the glowing moon, lifted to the flickering stars.

Salesman之死

Unable to speak Mandarin, Arthur Miller was in need of a translator and found in the young university professor, Shen Huibui, not only a translator of language but of culture, life, and the art of storytelling. Salesman之死.

Selected Shorts: Ken Burns Presents Willa Cather’s America

After the final reading, Burns remarked, “Let’s put Cather back on the Times Best Seller list. You will not be disappointed.” Not disappointed, the audience celebrated with a hearty round of applause for the brilliant performances of those who were onstage.

Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors

The actors’ droll and elegant linguistic patter sliced into the backdrop of the city’s hubbub of engines, horns, and sirens. The virtual world they drew us into was a topsy-turvy pastiche of clever banter, delight, and merriment.

The Gospel According to Heather

The Gospel According to Heather is retelling of the story of Jesus, of those who followed him and believed in him, and those who fought to destroy him. It is the story of Scrooge and his transformation, it is the story of teenagers and how they discover their own worth and belief and love for self.

Sandblasted

The journey of our lives, searching for answers to explain our past, present, and future, is comparable to Merriam-Websters’s definition of sand being “the moments of a lifetime.” Characters Angela, Odessa, and Adah hunt for answers on navigating humanity in sandblasted. Audiences will laugh as they relate to life’s subtle emotions exposed throughout this production by playwright Charly Evon Simpson.

MJ the Musical

Jackson is a playful, soulful, dedicated artist as only Nottage could script. She humanizes MJ into a man to whom we relate and love. Even the skeptics in the audience paused to entertain something rare today – the other side of the story. Hearing MJ speak up for himself was powerful. Frost’s soft-spoken and demure manner made us lean in to hear what he was saying. His peaceful demeanor allures and provides the space to understand more than is simply stated.
