This book is an excellent cautionary narrative for anyone contemplating raising a family alone without resources. It is difficult and wrought with pitfalls and misery, and if there is joy, it is hard to grasp.
The ancient language of the Persians, Farsi, is the ultimate romantic language, and the nuances and shades are deep and numerous. Rumi is considered the greatest poet of this language; his significant works are the Masnavi, rhyming couplets like those quoted above, and Divan-e Shams-e Tabrizi, a collection of lyric poetry.
Guston and Ross Feld met after Guston read a review Feld had written of his latest exhibition. It was not received well, and Feld had praised it, seemingly understanding Guston’s new direction. The show/event hosted by the authors Kathy Najimy, Linda Perry, Chely Wright, and Lauren Blitzer was Chicken Soup for the soul of women. After that eponymous venue at Symphony space, many were excited to get home, devour the book and meet more empowered women. Included with the ticket price were photos with various artists and autographs, obtained like true starstruck fans on the book’s pages.
