Sarah Anne Fernandez: Don’t Forget Me at The Green Room 42

Sarah Anne Fernandez took center stage at The Green Room 42 with her captivating new show, Don’t Forget Me. The show celebrated women’s legacy, resilience, and indomitable spirit throughout history tonight. Known for her commanding performances in musicals like Wicked, Fernandez’s latest endeavor demonstrated her remarkable ability to combine powerhouse vocals with heartfelt storytelling.

The 75-minute concert, directed by Rebecca Aparicio and music direction by Sheela Ramesh, was a deeply personal exploration of how women’s stories have been immortalized in musical theater. Fernandez challenged her audience to consider whether these portrayals reflect the true essence of women or how society chooses to remember them.

Opening with the premiere of an original song, Her Story, by Michael Mott, Fernandez immediately set the tone for a night dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements, struggles, and legacies. Accompanied by a skilled ensemble of musicians—Sara Overton (cello), Matt SanGiovanni (guitar), Brad Bosenbeck (violin), Nic Mrakovcic (bass), Jessie-Ray Leich (drums), and Sheela Ramesh (piano)—she delivered a masterful blend of Broadway classics and lesser-known gems.

A Musical Journey Through History

Fernandez’s setlist showcased her impressive vocal and emotional range as she brought iconic women to life through song. From Annie Oakley’s witty defiance in “You Can’t Get a Man with a Gun” (Annie Get Your Gun) to Maria’s empowering anthem, “I Have Confidence” (The Sound of Music), Fernandez honored each character’s strength and complexity through beautiful song.

She moved seamlessly from Gypsy Rose Lee’s playful charm in Let Me Entertain You (Gypsy) to Eva Perón’s poignant vulnerability in You Must Love Me (Evita). Her rendition of Heart of Stone (Six), a tribute to Jane Seymour’s enduring love and sacrifice, was a showstopper, showcasing Fernandez’s vocal prowess and emotional depth.

The performance also spotlighted lesser-known women, including sculptor Camille Claudel, whose tragic life was honored with Gold (Camille Glaudel), and Tamara de Lempicka, celebrated in Woman Is (Lempicka). Fernandez infused these songs with reverence, ensuring their stories were told with dignity and grace.
