Le Bilboquet: A French Gem in New York

Le Bilboquet has several locations in New York, offering an authentic French dining experience. Recently, I had lunch at their location on 20 East 60th Street, one of the restaurant’s most renowned spots. Le Bilboquet is in Sag Harbor, Fleming at Le Bilboquet on 27 E. 67th Street, and a charming Café Bilboquet at 26 East 60th Street. Let’s experience Le Bilboquet: A French Gem in New York!

When I arrived at Le Bilboquet’s 60th Street location, the front of the restaurant had no signage or address number. Interestingly, this gave it an understated elegance. I relied on my GPS to guide me, and as I reached 60th Street and Madison Avenue, I knew I had arrived at a special place.

A French Dining Experience at Le Bilboquet

The restaurant’s interior was simple yet distinctly French, with a vibrant bar and intimate dining area. Moreover, the atmosphere at Le Bilboquet felt lively, and I soon discovered the story behind this iconic restaurant when I researched its history.

Le Bilboquet started as a small, intimate boîte in Manhattan’s Upper East Side in 1986. Initially, the restaurant had only 35 seats but quickly became a hotspot for regulars, royals, celebrities, artists, and more. By 2013, the restaurant had moved to a larger space in New York City to accommodate over 100 guests, and the charm that made it famous has never faded. Today, Le Bilboquet continues to expand its reach, with locations in Denver, Palm Beach, Sag Harbor, and Atlanta. Each restaurant, from Le Bilboquet Denver to Le Bilboquet Palm Beach, has a unique ambiance, artwork, and local specials. Still, they all share the same beloved cocktails, classic dishes, and exceptional Euro-style service.

The Story Behind Le Bilboquet

At the heart of Le Bilboquet is its founder, Philippe Delgrange, a French bon vivant living his American dream. His passion for good food, socializing, and love of life have shaped the restaurant into what it is today. Delgrange has always encouraged guests to engage in lively conversation, table-hop, and enjoy bold culinary choices. The spirit of fun and celebration is embodied in everything Le Bilboquet does, from its delicious food to its exceptional service.

Le Bilboquet’s unique vibe has attracted many guests over the years. The waitstaff, primarily French, enhances the authenticity of the experience. At the 60th Street location, the staff was professional and attentive but also warm and personable, making me feel at home. In true Le Bilboquet fashion, tables were moved aside at 2 PM, and a DJ began playing Euro Club music, adding a touch of fun to the dining experience. This is a classic Le Bilboquet tradition!

My Culinary Adventure at Le Bilboquet

Now, let’s talk about the food. I kept things light and ordered La Cobb Salade, which featured grilled chicken, egg, bacon, avocado, cherry tomatoes, and blue cheese. As expected, the dish was perfectly prepared, and the fresh bread brought to the table before the meal was equally delightful. The refreshing and flavorful salad made it perfect for a light yet satisfying lunch.

I topped off my meal with a cup of American coffee, which was the ideal conclusion to my experience. The attention to detail in each dish, from the bread to the salad, exemplified the care and craftsmanship that goes into every meal at Le Bilboquet.

Saturday DJ Lunch at Le Bilboquet

For those looking to experience the lively atmosphere of Le Bilboquet with the added touch of a DJ, Saturday lunch at 2 PM is a must-try. If you’d like to make a reservation for this special time, I highly recommend emailing them through their website to secure your spot. The great food, vibrant music, and a fun crowd make it a truly unique New York experience.

Final Thoughts: Embracing the Le Bilboquet Spirit

Le Bilboquet is more than just a restaurant – it’s an experience that brings a slice of Parisian life to New York. Whether visiting their location in the Upper East Side or one of their other restaurants around the country, you’re sure to enjoy the same elegance, charm, and joie de vivre that Philippe Delgrange has brought to life in each of his venues. As Delgrange himself says, “Life should be celebrated!” And that’s precisely what Le Bilboquet is all about: great food, fun company, and an atmosphere that makes every visit feel like a celebration. I will certainly be returning to experience more of what Le Bilboquet offers, and I encourage you to do the same. A bientôt!
