Sexting has consequences. But sexting your boss instead of your girlfriend? That’s a whole other matter when you involve middle-aged men trying to retrieve the cell phone of the wrong recipient. Caper is an evening of nonsense, chaos, and absurdity in a one-night escapade in New York City.

Phil (Ron Palais) has made a big mistake. Instead of sexting his girlfriend’s telephone number, he sent the sext to his boss, Janet (Anne Klaus). In his moment of life-or-death crisis, he involves his misfit group of friends to recover the phone.

Larry (Richard Cooper), Duke (Asa James), Chris (Cristopher Tramantana), Silvia (Celester Rich), and Billy (Sam Gilroy) have toxic, misogynistic views of women. The group of men hasn’t matured beyond their wild, carefree youths, and the audience immediately burst out laughing hysterically at the movie’s opening. The humor — it’s Monty Python attending their poker game when they attempt to devise a solution to Phil’s dilemma. We observed the group’s lack of wisdom, instability, and immature behavior as they comforted Phil. Their inability to handle life makes the movie that much better.

In search of correcting Phil’s perverse midlife crisis mistake, the group lands in a sex club, dressing up in a variety of costumes that add to the harebrained adventure. Regardless of the symbolism, it made all attendees laugh. The night evolves scene after scene, each funnier than the last. What really shines in this movie is the lesson that genuine friendship survives when you need your posse the most.

And at the finish of the evening, not to spoil the ending, the group of men receive insight into the female sex they don’t understand or never will.

Dean Imperial wrote and directed this movie. Caper has a group of actors that work so well together that one gets the impression they are not acting at all. This movie was so insanely and innocently funny that you need to see it several times.
