The other evening at precisely 6 p.m., I met a friend at The Cutting Room, a celebrated venue tucked away on East 32nd Street between Park and Madison Avenues. Nestled in the heart of Manhattan, The Cutting Room is more than just a performance space—it’s a hallowed hall for musicians and music lovers alike. With over a decade of cultural imprint, it has hosted an eclectic roster of top-tier performers, including John Mayer, Lady Gaga, Sting, Sheryl Crow, and the late David Bowie. Their appearances here are not mere footnotes in the venue’s history but proof of its enduring magnetism and relevance in New York’s ever-evolving music scene.
Co-founded initially by Berklee College of Music alumnus Steve Walter and actor Chris Noth—widely known for his roles in Sex and the City, Law and Order, and The Good Wife—The Cutting Room emerged as a passion project at the intersection of art and hospitality. It was born out of a desire to reimagine the traditional rock club, blending the gritty edge of downtown with the elegance and acoustics of a modern lounge. Since its revival, the venue has retained its original ethos while offering a sleek, contemporary experience that appeals to both seasoned professionals and newcomers to the stage.
Here’s a clip from a recent show:
As shared on their website, the vision was clear: “We wanted a place where up-and-coming artists could get seen and established artists felt comfortable playing club gigs. We wanted a place with great sound, creative food, and cocktails, where the venue itself was as beautiful as the music,” said Walter. This sentiment is not just a mission statement—it’s a lived reality. The venue’s ambiance is intimate and grand, with crimson velvet drapes, Art Deco-inspired lighting, and a layout that allows every note to resonate clearly, no matter where you sit.
In an era when live performance spaces are becoming increasingly homogenized, The Cutting Room stands apart. It’s not merely a stage—it’s a sanctuary where artistry is nurtured and celebrated, a place where music breathes deeply, and the walls seem to echo with stories from every performance past.
So here is the outside of The Cutting Room, the inside bar, the dining room area, and the stage.

So who was headlining this evening’s performance?
It was Reza Khan Merch and his group. Reza Khan is a guitarist, composer, and producer . His website tells us that “Reza Khan stands out as a true musical citizen of the world, purposefully transcending typical genre trappings with his dynamic fusion of blend of infectious pop, jazz, soul, and world music influences.”
I can tell you that his music was both vibrant and mystical and all the musicians were fabulous. It was truly a great 90 minute show.

And yes, we ate dinner there at well. I decided to order a Southwest Chicken Salad which included grilled chipotle chicken, avocado, heirloom tomatoes, romaine and mixed greens, roasted corn, black beans, tortilla strips and queso fresco. It was a great choice!

With, might I add, a large cup of Black Coffee!

So check out The Cutting Room’s event tab and treat yourself to a great evening out!
